what's with the cross-bar?
Every tuba needs some place to clamp to bicycle horn.

Could it be to dampen the bell vibrations?

Rather spoils the appearance of an otherwise beautiful tuba whatever it is for.

Probably tuba are like babies - everyone thinks their own is the most beautiful. However, from the first time I saw the Mel Culbertson Neptune, I thought it was the most beautiful tuba I have ever seen. A perfectly balanced design enhanced by its special bell and valve key engravings, with the beautification completed by gold lacquer finish. Here is mine! :)

My Neptune has been slightly customized by the main water key being moved to the bottom of the slide, so I can empty without lifting off its playing stand.

OK... I suggested the most beautiful sousaphone and helicon earlier and said there were many pretty tubas to chose from. Well, after thinking about it for a while I have made my choice....

Almost too pretty for words....

Yes, it's on display at Interlochen. Jerry Young says that it doesn't play very well.

Last year I bought a tiny Carl Fischer Eb tuba on eBay. It isn't beautiful by any stretch of the imagination. But it often gets an "AW, THAT'S CUTE" reaction when people realize it isn't a euphonium.

What is the best beer one could present to a tubist in order to bribe them for something such as this?

Bring these ladies along and it's a sure deal.

I second that, had a case of Optimator this past weekend. Such wonderful brew.
