As hinted in my former posting on this thread I trust reviews of the PCK to a degree, that I reckon it to the absolute and rare elite of tubas. I’m not into CC’s myself, but I got an exceptionally favourable offer on a slightly used Gronitz BBb equivalent. The catch was, that I should fetch in Germany, which was not possible for me (that story has been told here before).
When I still trafficked in the Copenhagen brass environment, I learned, that all dealers, no matter how much they were competitors, alerted each other on thefts, be they by window cracking or by simple shoplifting.
Any serious player (pro, teacher, or amateur) could rely on the same network.
If I were Jobey, which I in this present situation am fortunately NOT, I would alert Gronitz about the theft. There have been cases where thieves have sought competent evaluation of the stolen goods. This is well known from the art world. (For years I rode a very special bike. A local drug abuser once approached me to ask how much it would be worth on the black market, as he had stolen a similar bike. He got no reply. A week later he cracked the local pharmacy, enjoyed the goods, was arrested, medically examined, and put in detention. The catch was, that the doctor had not detected the huge amount of pills not yet dissolved in his stomach, so he was found dead a few hours later).
As I read Roger, the US network has been activated. If I am provided the serial number and special characteristics, I will alert the networks in Germany, Denmark, Norway, and maybe also in Sweden. My contact person in Germany happens to be Bob Tucci, whom Jobey may alert himself. This tuba is worth flying over oceans. I guess we will have board members willing to alert networks in Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Japan. Maybe there also are networks in Latin America.

It really sucks when your horn gets stolen - especially when it's a tool you use in your livelyhood. I really hate leaving a horn in the car, but I find I end up having to do it all the time. I can't imagine as a serious amateur how you can avoid it, but a pro playing all the time would have no choice.
That is why I have the best alarms I could install on the car, but they will only slow a good thief and not stop them if they really want it. I also try to park as smart as I can in highly visible well trafficed areas, but that is not fool proof.
Maybe we need to invent some Tuba alarms.
I wonder what the legal implications would be if a thief electrocuted himself on a wired tuba?
I would think that a rare horn like yours stands a better chance of being spotted by a repair person or another pro and possibly such a large horn would be harder to sell due to its size to anyone but another pro. I hope that it doesn't get banged up before you get it back. Best of luck getting it back.

Everyone, thank you so much for all your support...I can't begin to tell you how much better it makes to feel. This is an extraordinary instrument, and I am truly heart-broken. Apparently, there's been quite a string of break-ins around Boston the past few months...the Boston PD is on it & actually are a little excited about this...they hope this will bring down whatever gang (they suspect it's a gang) is behind the break-in's. Please continue to keep your eyes out. Thanks so much!!

Anyone here remember the story about Ed Goldstein in Baltimore, MD? His Holton was stolen from his car and it became a pretty big media thing (newspapers, TV). The loser tried to sell it to a pawn shop and the shop guy had seen the TV about it. Needless to say, the dude got nabbed, the media caught wind of the bust on their scanners and went to the scene and Ed went to recover his tuba and played it to make sure it was OK. The End.
If anyone knows more about this story than what I can barely remember, fill us in. It was a great story.

Here are some encouraging words for Jobey in the form of a note written by Gail Williams approximately one month after her horn was stolen:Steve Marcus wrote:Gail Williams, former horn player of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, recently had her Geyer horn stolen in Iowa or Nebraska.
hey all, just wanted you to know that today my geyer was found at a pawn shop in Omaha. Loius Stout Jr. ID'd the horn so now I'll figure out the next step . Just thought you'd like to know the geyer is coming "home" . IT won't get out of the house again!
