Rob Richardson from YBS just spent last Tuesday evening recording with the Brass Band of Columbus. After 3.5 hrs of recording the band had 4 solos with Rob, one duet with Rob and BBC baritone Diana Herak, and one duet with Diana and her father Paul Droste.
The purpose of the project is to produce a CD of many new and old works specifically composed for the baritone. Several new pieces were recorded, including Roger Thorne’s ‘Concertino for Baritone’ and YBS Principal Percussionist Andrea Crossley’s wonderful new slow melody ‘A New Day’.
All in all it was a great time for the band and for Rob. The band will bring in two more guest soloists this spring for the CD, Helen Tyler and Katrina Marzella, and will also record a few more pieces with Diana. The CD is set for release in June of 2007.
