Which pair is best?

I was just wondering what all of you tubenetters think is the best pair of audio headphones out there. I'm specifically looking for a bigger set with even dynamics throughout the whole range, but nothing that completely covers my ear. The two pair I've got my eye on is the Nady QH560 Deluxe Studio Headphones, although I'd like something with a wider response than 20Hz to 20kHz. Thanks for any help on this.

If you can stand having these things in your ears, the Koss Sparkplugs are the best headphones I have ever used. They're cheap, they stay in my ears even when sleeping, they have the best bass I've ever heard from headphones, and they save battery in my mp3 player because I can turn the volume down to half of what I use on my over the ear pair (phillips sbc hp170).

If you do some research on opinions about the upper end of the Sennheiser stuff, I think you'll find almost universal praise.

If you want open back headphones that let outside sounds in, look at the sennheiser 580 or Stax electrostatic. If you want a closed back headphone, my recommendation is the Sony MDR-V6/7506.

Another good pair of earbud headphones is the JVC Gumy headphones. I can't complain a bit about them, and they're under $10. I guess that's if you can stand earbuds...

Most of the higher end Sennheisers will cover and surround your ear. I have a pair of Sennheiser PX-100's that I am very happy with. They sit on your ear but don't surround it. They are on the cheaper end of the Sennheiser stuff and an amazing buy- you can find them for around $40. Headroom (http://www.headphone.com) named it their top choice for a headphone under $50.

By the way, why is it that you don't want headphones that surround your ear?

The main reason I don't want haddphones that don't cover my ears is because of possible hearing loss. I've only got about 30-40% in the left ear, and I don't want to lose any more. Plus, I want to be aware of my surroundings when I'm listening to music; closed-back headphones would make me fall asleep too easily.
