Nirschl 6/4 York Copy for sale

Post by Chris Olka »

For sale: Nirschl 6/4 York CC, 4 pistons, 1 rotor, silver plate. This horn was 1 of 2 that Warren Deck played in the New York Philharmonic. He flew to Germany and picked this one out of a batch of new ones in 1998 or 1999 while I was in school at Juilliard. I don't remember which year. Anyway, I bought this one from him when he retired. I had a choice of either of his 2 Nirschls and after playing both picked this one. It is very open and responsive and has excellent intonation. Great low register and the valves work GREAT. One issue I have had with most Nirschl tubas is the valves and the valves on this horn are the best of any Nirschl I have tried. I have used this horn for about 90% of the playing I do in Seattle Symphony for the last 5 years. I have used it in quintet, solo recitals, recordings, auditions, symphony and opera and it has been everything I could want it to be. I am only selling this horn to free up money for a large purchase I am about to make. The horn is in very good shape with only minor dents and dings. It has never had ANY major damage. There are two areas of silver wear-thru. These are shown in the photos and are where I hold the horn. I ususally cover them with electrical tape after cleaning the horn. The valves and slides are all in excellent working order and the pistons and rotor have been vented by Warren when he owned it. I have 2 Nirschl 6/4 horns and this is the one I have been using exclusively at work for 5 years, I kept one at home and one at work to avoid transporting them around and damaging them. I am asking $17000 US+ shipping and this includes a black aluminum flight case. I think they are going for quite a bit more new and of course that is when you can get them. Due to the fragile nature of these tubas I will not ship it out for a trial. Anyone interested in the horn is welcome to come to my house in Seattle to try it or purchase it outright. Please, only serious inquiries. Thanks for looking.

Unfortunately, it is not me, but that tuba was probably the only nearly -close copy of Mr. Jacobs' York.

I tried to get Chris to leave the room a few times a couple of years ago, so I could walk away with it, but he was already on to me... good thing I don't play poker...

Boo hoo for me and y'all,
'cept fer the lucky smart person.
