Do you know about or own this tuba?

Post by bisontuba »

Hi-
There was an old tuba a couple of years ago on ebay--did anybody on this forum buy it or know where it is? It is an old Conn tuba. Here's a pic:

If you have info on this, or if it is for sale, please email me directly at: jonestuba@juno.com I am interested in it or information on it.

Many thanks-
mark

Mark,

It is another "name brand" tuba made by Conn, referred to as a "Helleberg" model. Of course, Helleberg only played rotary valve tubas and probably had nothing to do with it's production.

A retired tubist in the Dallas area told me that he had thought about buying one decades ago but that they played very stuffy. Later he did buy one of the Rudy Meinl copies of this type tuba but it is a small playing instrument. Rudy no longer makes them except on special order.

The one on ebay was located in Florida, if that's what this one is.

Sorry I can't locate this horn for you but you already have one of the best tubas Conn ever made. Nothing else they made will touch it, the 8X-J series is not even close.
