Any suggestions?

Post by tubafatness »

Hello, and sorry for about the fifteenth "question" post I've put on here, but I have another one for the board.
Unless something huge comes up, I'm making a little road trip up to the MidWest Band Clinic. My main purpose is to try every F and Eb tuba I can, but I don't know if I'll have enough time. I'm definitely going to hit the Custom Music booths, and the Meinl-Weston booth. Will that give me a sizable number of horns to try out? I've never been to one of these things, so I'm not quite sure how big of a selection there will be. The only other three places I've seen on the Exhibitors list for tubas are the Tuba Exchange, Miraphone, and Yamaha. Would it be worth it to make my way to those three? And, will I have much of a hassle in trying to play some of these horns? I'm not one much for pushing and shoving for something, so I hope there is nothing like that. Thanks, and any answers to these questions would be appreciated!

I don't have a good answer for your question as I have never been to midwest, but I just wanted to post a reply that didn't sound sarcastic and then end in Sheesh. So, here it is.

What you need to do is call each place and find out what they're bringing to the band clinic. This would potentially give you TONS of Eb and F tubas to try out...

Custom Music:
B&S PT-10/11/15/16 F tubas
B&S PT-22 Eb
Hirsbrunner HB-9/10/12 F tubas

Meinl Weston
MW182 F
MW2182 F
MW2145S(LP) F
MW2141/2140 Eb tubas

Tuba Exchange
Gronitz 125/126 F tubas
Kalison 2001 F
Kalison 2044 F
Miraphone 181 F
Willson 3200 F
Willson 3400 Eb

Miraphone
80/81/281 F tubas
"Ambassador" Eb
"Norwegian Star" Eb

Yamaha
YFB-621/822 F tubas
YEB-321/632 Eb tubas

It depends on what they bring... but according to that list I can't imagine an Eb/F tuba that is missing.

quinterbourne, thanks for the suggestion, I didn't think of calling them. I have plenty of free time today, so I'll get on it. Thanks again.

Oh, and ed, I didn't ask for sarcasm, I asked for helpful advice.

Thanks to everyone else.

Aaron, it's TubeNet. What else would you expect? Image
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Who else is going to Midwest this year?

I'll be working there Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday--except when I sneak out to try some tubas at the other displays. I won't be in my booth much of Thursday afternoon because I'll be at the CSO Brass concert at Orchestra Hall and playing a concert with Chicago Brass Band in the early evening.

Please say hi at my booth, The Beautiful Sound/Chicago Piano Superstore, in the Northeast Exhibition Hall.
