I believe there is a term called distonia? It's spelled something close to that. It is a disorder that Warren Deck came down with as have a few others. It's basically the equivalent of losing control of the muscles that make your buzz. They just can't do it anymore.
You may try looking that up, it might bring you some more good information!
I'm not sure if all the details here are 100%, but when I was at the University of Oklahoma (early nineties) , I believe they hired a new tuba professor. If I'm not mistaken he was going to be the principal tubist for the Oklahoma Philharmonic as well. His lip blew out soon after he came (something to do with the muscles...perhaps this 'distonia' thing). Career over. Damn shame. Talented guy.
David Wilson-Burns, amateur tubist (and amateur fortune cookie writer!)
Very worst thing you can do is try to plow through it and keep trying to play. Very best thing you can do is stop playing immediately and start researching. Some, if they follow this path, can make a comeback.

Yes I agree, but why isn't he posting instead of you? There are alot of different causes to symptoms like this. But hey...on the bright side, Bob Brookmeyer has a fuzzy sound and no one complains...
