Yamaha 321 question

Post by RyanMcGeorge »

Does anyone know if there is a version of a yamaha 321 with 3+1 valve setup rather than an inline 4? If not is there a good quality 3+1 small bore euph that would be comparable to yamaha 321 that anyone can recommend?

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan,

Besson (at least they used to) makes a 3+1 non-compensation horn that should be right on par with the YEP321.

Ryan,

Yamaha used to make the YEP-621 with the 3+1 configuration. Nice horn. The same bore as the YEP-321. I believe they stopped selling this model in North America after they came out with the YEP-641. It might still be available in other markets.

These horns appear for sale from time to time.

Yup, it's the YEP-621, available in some markets (Japan and some European countries). Same bore and bell, etc., just 3+1.

I've never played this specific model, but I have played the same model with 4 inline valves which has the same bore, bell, etc....and it was probably the best non-comp. euph I've ever played.

Doc @ ibowtie.com sings the praises of Kanstul euphs, and in addition to that model now have a new comp model as well.

The Kanstul comp. euph is good, a couple of squirrely notes on the protoype that I debutted at the USABTEC several years ago, but it's a fine euph.

The Besson 3+1 non comp is a decent horn, once you throw away the Besson 5 mouthpiece it came with. It doesn't need a large shank mod like the 321's do.

Jupiter has a 3+1. Not sure whether it is large shank or small. Not sure on quality either.
