information on Brazilian tuba solo needed

Post by Jay Parke »

My University's symphonic band is doing a series of concerts from around the globe, the first concert this semester being music from Latin America. I have been asked to play a piece called Seresta Brasileira No. 2 for Tuba and Symphonic Band. If anyone knows anything about this work I would be very thankfull if you would share it with me, especially if you know of a decent recording. All I know is that it is dedicated to James Gourlay.

thanks in advance -Jay

btw the concert is Feb. 16 at UT Chattanooga, Roland Hayes Concert Hall 8:00 pm

Hello Jay! It's not much, but the composer's name is Hudson Noguiera. He teaches at the Sao Paolo conservatory. The piece was given at an international conference for symphonic bands and composers in Brazil. Gourlay teaches tuba at the Royal Northern Conservatory in Manchester. Maybe some of our British friends could ask him what the piece sounded like. Hudson Noguiera has a web site with sound samples, although there aren't any for the tuba piece. It is in Portugese, but all you have to do is go to the "banda simfonica" section. Good luck, John
