Rights ownership

Post by JHardisk »

So, I'm pulling out my hair here trying to find out who owns the rights to "Variations on Barnacle Bill, the Sailor" Arr. Hafner. And I didn't have any hair to begin with!

So far, Kagarice Press has not replied to me, but Hickey's Music (who also carries the solo) believes that they've not identified the copyright holder correctly on their edition, anyway.

I've been pointed to Summy-Birchard. After googling, etc.. I can't find anything worthwhile on this company. Anyone familiar with this name?

As far as my research has taken me, I've only identified one person who's recorded this piece.. Denson Paul Pollard, the Bass bonist in Hong Kong. I'm trying to reach him via the HK Symphony website, right now to see how and where he got rights from.

Anyone else have experience with this that they could impart some knowledge my way?

I'm running out of options in my little brain. I need to spend more time in the practice room, and less time in front of this computer, getting nowhere!

If the arranger is Jamie Hafner (former tuba prof/band director at University of Toledo and Brevard Music Center), you might look a a email address or check for a phone number for Brevard, NC where he is retired. He lives above the Music Center.

He might be able to help find out more info about the composer/publisher etc.

Good luck
