I'm proud to say that I was present at the premier of this work with Scott Watson doing a magnificent job as soloist and I playing my part in The U. S. Army Band. (February 1, 1997; TUSAB-TEC) It can be portrayed as a light hearted piece but it's a major work nonetheless. Get the music and start practicing. It's important to note that, if memory serves me correctly, Dr. Barnes intended this work for a contrabass tuba (CC or BBb.) Indeed Scott Watson played it on a CC. So if you are entertaining the idea of playing it on F or Eb you might not please Dr. Barnes.
Amongst aviators it is often said that any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. It's an even better landing when you can reuse the airplane.
