I was disappointed in this horn (HB-50) as well. When I saw it, I got really excited, but when I played it, I did not think it was doing the job I would expect of a horn of this nature. It seemed to be wasting my air, unlike the PCK at Tuba Exchange, which actually seemed to take my air and use it wisely. Can a tuba really do that? I think it did today!!!Doc wrote:HB-50 Grand Orchestral CC - Yeah, they really had one there. I did NOT see what all the fuss is about. But then again, HB's don't speak to me personally. It wasn't a dog, but bells didn't ring and sparks didn't fly. I did try several mp's on it (Conn Helleberg, Laskey 30G, Klier T4D, SSH), but the horn just didn't feel good to me. Intonation was pretty good, and it made a good sound. Responded well, too, but it didn't reach out and grab me personally. I heard several comments at the booth from various players that the horn was great. To each his own.
I also enjoyed playing the Thor, and I even liked the 2265 Roger had. BTW, if any of you haven't met Roger, he was the nicest vendor I talked with on the floor. He is such a great resource for our community. Thanks, Roger!!!
