Just a redundant plug for the Band's 2007 tour that has been posted on the Calendar. We're visiting the Mid-west this year from March 1st through the 16th, with our first concert in Omaha for the Nebraska Band Directors Association Convention.

No snow right now, looks pretty good for the weekend too. Mid 30's ish.


I'll give you a nudge and pester you a little bit. It'll be nice to meet another Tuba player, there aren't many here in Nebraska. Have a safe trip.

Clear skies and warmish out here in the high plains, but lincoln and Omaha are shut down with snow.

Hi 'Netters.

As I hope y'all discovered, last night's concert was cancelled due to this weird white stuff blanketing hill and dale surrounding Omaha/Lincoln. The Navy Band joined the ranks of the stranded travellers in Chicago: one of the few airports shut down was Omaha, so we had no where to go.

Several of us made the best of things and headed downtown to catch a CSO concert. All French; Faure, Revel Scherazade (?), and Franck D minor--sweet! Wonderful group, terrific playing, inspiring musicianship... but what are these weird wooden things that most of the group were scraping sticks across? I overheard a patron mentioned something called "strings"? Who ever heard of a band concert with strings

Just so y'all know in advance, tonight's concert in Des Moines has already been cancelled! I'm currently sitting in Midway airport's USO. Our busses (which left DC before us) and our equipment truck are/were in Omaha. We're hoping to hook up with them today and get on with this tour.

Yes, our tour is still stuck. The band's been holed up in Omaha for the past two days. Finally got there to meet up with our equipment only to face more snow and closed highways. Our concert tonight has also been cancelled but we have high hopes of getting on the road Sunday and making our concert Sunday night.

you guys shoulda just headed south from Otown a few hours...it's been windy in KC but no snow. I know, I know, different areas, but putting Missouri in the same area as Calyfourneeah is silly.

We finally played! Great crowd for a concert at the Grand River Center in Dubuque. Back on schedule and fresh for more.

Getting in some early morning practice in the hotel's business center before hitting the road for a pleasant 3-hour trip to Wisconsin Rapids. Concert tonight is at 7:30 at Lincoln High School Performing Arts Center.

Please forgive me if my spelling is incorrect. Just finished a fun concert in Fond du Lac. A gym job, but really not too bad acoustically. Today's item of note is food: had one of the better Mexican food meals at a place called Mazatlan. Unbelievable: on Main street in Fond du Lac Wisconsin, a Mecca of Mexican masterworks. Every person who ate there declared it The Best Meal of the Tour (so far).

Also, Jim Kelly (of Kelly Mouthpieces fame) provided a great treat at the concert site itself, with deli sandwiches, chips, drinks, pickles... you get the idea. Very tasty and great for after-concert munching.

Gotta run, the Halo game is starting!

Ahhh Fondy!.... Never found Mazatlan when the USMB was there in 2003, did have a nice Friday night fish fry, however.
B., cut 'em a break for not being able to find wheels(or a snowmobile) to get to Howard's Grove, I doubt the busses are running that direction very regularly(at all)...

Well, I spoke to John Facenda and considered hooking up the huskys for "a bold trek across the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field" but my thin Texan blood wouldn't allow it.

Gastronomic highlights continued yesterday with nod to the great deep-dish pizza tradition of Chicago as a bunch of us headed to Giordano's. Lordy, lordy the small was enough for 3 of us, with some tasty seconds during large blows in the evening's concert.

Got to say a big hello to our nearly-Navy Band member James Hicks who came to the concert and joined us afterwards for spirited tuba fellowship and an intense discussion of the nobler qualities of femented malt.

If it's Friday, it must be Springfield...
