Old Miraphone F/Eb mouthpiece. Exactly what you describe. I just sold one to Frank Gazda. No model #, just marked "F" on the cup.

The S5 Sheridan mouthpiece with the standard shank, sounds like something you are describing.

tonytuba 02, I am also shopping for an Eb mouthpiece in stainless steel. I am considering a Loud LM-15 and a G&W Bora-so far in my research. I am unable to find a SS 24AW.
I am more concerned about a good low range mouthpiece. I do a lot of solo work but I can get a high Eb on most any mp. I need my lows to be fat right down to the bottom.

When I talked to Joe Murphy at Loud a few weeks back he indicated the LM-15 was more of a specialized high-register mouthpiece. He also said that they are coming out with a new piece that might be right up your alley. It will be called the LM-9 and it will be a copy of Tim Northcutt's PT-9 (old designation for the PT-64). If it has the screw rim you would be able to get the Helleburg style rim for it as well.

Doug Elliott also makes a Conn-like flat, narrow rim--the 130-4N. (4 for "very" and N for "narrow and flat"). You can put that rim on any of his cups, including those that are shallow and cup-shaped. He has that shape in other rim sizes, too, in case you like something bigger around but still with the relatively flat contour.

For a small flat tuba mpc, the G&W Churada is nice as well.

Talked to the nice folks at Giddings and Webster today and told them I was researching a Bora mouthpiece for my 1940 Eb King. I was surprised when they recommended a "Diablo" in stainless steel. There is one coming my way soon with the 14 day satisfaction guarantee.

Maybe with a "Diablo" I can play the "devil" out of that tuba.

Shame on me!

I got my G&W "Diablo" yesterday and played it as long as I dared with no apparent damage to the lips. The rim is narrower than I'm used to but all notes slot well. The problem with the F in the staff being really flat is better with this mpc that my Kelly 24AW. The stainless steel is definitely more slippery than the plastic and the old edge is back in the sound.

It's time for us Creekers to finish the second c.d. and this mpc arrived just in time for the start of the long practice sessions.
I'll keep the Kelly in my trumpet case for occasional use but so far I am thrilled with the G&W.
We have a private party on the beach Thursday. That will tell how the chops feel after four hours of frantic happy music.

It's spring here on the Guf Coast. Going to be in the 70's and sunny for rest of the week.

We played a two hour set by the pool Thursday, for a Parrothead group who rented the whole beachside hotel. Parrot head gigs are always fun. They really get down and party hardy. They rented us three rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn (8 miles from my house-but we spent the night anyway)
We sold ten c.d.'s, booked three road gigs in Texas and Arkansas and were invited up to a hospitality suite for munchies after our gig.
We were invited to join them for a 7P.M. pub crawl at the Flora-Bama Beach Bar. They had shuttle busses hired to run them around the whole beach area (No DUI's for this bunch). Our buddies in Hanna's Reef were playing at the Flora-Bama and I just happened to have a tuba with me. We jammed to "Margaritaville" and John added the "Tourists in Tube Tops" verse. I may be the first guy to play a tuba in this bar. May I be followed by many more.

Hey tubatooter1940: when we played Margaritaville, on the tattoo verse, to get the crowd going (you know...more crowd response = more beer sales = you get to come back and play again)
