Silly question, Brian, but I assume that we're talking standard concert band here and not brass band?

While it is nice for those among us will be auditioning to have a body of literature like this. There are probably many more of us who will never audition for a service band but would love to have a collection of tuba excerpts from the great literature for band. Either to have something challenging to practice, or to reminisce about old pieces that we played in our younger days such as college and see if we can still play the part or to play along with CDs.

So please don't forget those of us who will never be auditioning for a service band spot.

Also will this be a print product or a CD like the Cherry Orchestra Excerpt CD?

I am guessing it will be a print project. When it involves copyrights, most owners like to see hard copies of pieces. If the pieces were not under copyright I might consider a CD. Things can change and I am sure they will as I get into this!

I will do my best not to forget about the members of the list who will not be auditioning, but just like have the excerpts to play. This will depend on many things.

Yes. Just concert band. Not my cup of tea, but I am sure somone could make a Brass Band book as well! I am sure there would be many copyright issues with a book like that compared to a concert band book.

Unfortunately if you look close they don't offer a Tuba book. I have written them about once a year for the past 3 years (usually around the 1st of the year) telling them if they offered a tuba book I would be buying not only the Tuba books but the Flute, Euphonium and French Horn books as well (so the whole family could play along). Maybe one of these days they will offer a tuba book.

I think we need a second tuba renaissance. What d'y'all think?

(The first on was in the early 1970s, which began with the First International Tuba Symposium at Indiana University and a special tuba issue of the Instrumentalist magazine.)

There is a book available here in the uk for all brass band instruments , published by Mostyn Music ( the book is called Our Heritage) and each book has different excerpts , these are just a few examples I can remember , I have the Eb tuba book in the house.....

just looking at the posts , the wind band piece by Malcom Arnold Prelude , Siciliano and Rondo is better known in the UK as little suite for Brass no1 (which he wrote originally for brass in the late 1960's).

On top of that anything with a decent number of notes for the tuba part makes for reading practice if compiled in a large quantity.

Ask around for the past 10 years or so of band auditions and see what was asked. Similiar to orchestral auditions there ARE greatest hits which are both listed and used as "sight reading" in most of the auditions.

On top of that ALWAYS have a spectacular solo ready to go and highly polished. Many of the auditions ask for a solo of your choice.

While you are asking for copyright permission for Tuba parts, why not ask for Euphonium as well? I think there would be quite a bit of interest.

I have thick book of band excerpts that I have collected/aquired over the years. I know it also contains the old US Navy band tuba book and the old US Marine Band tuba book. Plus I have the USAF book that was used in the last concert band audition some 5-6 years ago.
