Mixed metaphor?
Is tuba-tossing akin to dwarf-tossing?

I have discussed it with my old band director at one time. we had some old jupiter three valve convertibles. so we decided to have a contest and charge like a dollar a throw. but it never happened the school wouldn't let us do it or something like that. Must of been because it was their horns
. But thats about all i have on it.

Even if the horns were absolute junk, as long as the valves sort-of moved they could be sent home with students as practice instruments. I have come across many high school and middle school students who would love to have any kind of horn to practice on at home. A few districts lend out old fiberglass sousas, but try getting that home with a hardcase on a schoolbus, or getting a kid to actually go through the trouble of assembling the thing and putting it on just to blow a few scales once a day. A small Jupiter would be just the ticket.josh wagner wrote:I have discussed it with my old band director at one time. we had some old jupiter three valve convertibles. so we decided to have a contest and charge like a dollar a throw. but it never happened the school wouldn't let us do it or something like that. Go to the bottom of the article, click the real button and listen to the 17 yr old Carol's Flight of the Bumblebee. She could play a bit back then too.Dean E wrote:Carol Jantsch won the women's division in Finland.

I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

It's like tossing your cookies, only a tuba is MUCH bigger (even those little French ones), a tuba is often made entirely from metal, and tubas don't fit very well on your hard drive, even if your browser will accept them.ibtuba wrote:Does anyone know anything about the tuba throwing contest?
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

What's the range of a tuba........
10 feet if you have a good arm.....
Is that a 3/4 horn or a 6/4 horn....
I can see it now there would be different classifications for sousaphones, BATs, etc.....sort of like SCCA racing.....
For some reason I can not imagine cellists doing the same thing at a cellists convention.....

i think I would rather let them hit the ground than try to catch them, that might hurt.LunchboxTScontra wrote:Certainly no sacriledge of this sort occurs. Why throw such a majestic instrument through the air and let it hit the ground? . . . . . . It does seem pretty fun though, I wouldn't mind throwing my old high school's Yamahas and watching them fly for a while.those horns were trash!
