Re: Shipping
Any of the motor freight companies--e.g. Yellow, Emory, etc. Box it really well, strap it to a pallet and let 'em haul it. Insurance is pretty reasonable--and freight haulers tend to pay off on claims better than UPS or Fedex does.arnuphal wrote:Who, besides Amtrack or Greyhound, would you use to ship a tuba from Coast to Coast?

Shipping a Tuba
I got wonderful service with Old Dominion Freight!
http://www.odfl.com/
In this case I was receiving a Broadcast TV Videotape deck I
bought on eBay, the shipper boxed it up, cut a 1/2 inch sheet of
plywood to cover and protect the top of the box and lashed it to a pallet.
They listed the weight as 130+ pounds, I know the deck itself
is around 80 pounds, they provided a tracking number which you can access on the internet.
And when it arrived at my local depot,
I went with the printout and got the shipment off the loading dock, it arrived in great condition.
Cost was in the $300 plus range, it took about
three or four days from Minnesota to Pennsylvania.

Re: Shipping a Tuba
I'm delighted that you got good service from Old Dominion! Someone shipped a string bass to me via Old Dominion and the box sat in their local warehouse for three days because they don't deliver to a residential address. My business is in my home and since it 'looked like a house', the driver just drove right on by. Had they called me I would have driven ten minutes to pick it up.... I wouldn't ship a mousetrap with these guys!Tuba-G Bass wrote:I got wonderful service with Old Dominion Freight!

Re:Shipping Old Dominion
It was easier for me to go with a pickup and have them move it from the depot
dock into the back of the truck, Since it was a
big box lashed to a full pallet.
With their tracking feature, I could check to see where it was
in the trip, that's how I knew when it got in town.
Like Schlep says, they are a freight company, not FedEx.And when it arrived at my local depot,
