Flight case for a 1291?

Post by bort »

Hi everyone,

I might be looking to get a flight case for my Miraphone 1291 CC this summer. I searched the archives, but there were a lot of old(er) entries.

Now that the "dust has settled" and the 1291 has been around for a while, are there any new thoughts on flight cases for a 1291? This isn't quite a "WTB" thread, just looking for some information right now...thanks.

I've been in contact with Unitec on flight cases lately for the Thor models. They have a new, much lighter material that they are beginning to experiment with that will reduce the weight of the case substantially. The goal is to get the weight of the case with the horn in it well under the 70lb limit where many of the airlines start charging their "overages".

The initial feeling is that these will be quite good and as protective as the wood models without all the extra weight. They already have the dimmensions of the 1291 in their archives and it should not be hard to get one made up for your horn.

The light-weight material may be a month or so out, but they feel very positive about it so far.

Any other questions, feel free to PM me.
