Hey all,

Just giving another late shout-out for an upcoming performance over at DePaul. We have a recital this Wednesday evening featuring two student brass quintets, performing separately and together. If you're in the Lincoln Park area, come on over!

Yes, the School of Music is at the Lincoln Park campus. Get off the Red Line at Fullerton, walk east down Fullerton almost to the end of the block, and go through the gate. The building to your left is the School of Music. Walk around to the front of the building, come in through the lower entryway and head left. See you there!

Bob, you should've come over and said hello after the show! I thought that had to be you at the end of the row. Steve Marcus managed to make it out, too; it was great to have a couple TubeNetters representing.

The range on the tuba part to Ambivalent Symbiont is D above middle C to pedal C (though that's just for the last note; otherwise it only goes to pedal F). It's a great piece written by a friend of mine from my undergrad, Lachlan Fife, who's still living and working in Boston. I think that was his first piece for brass, too! I keep bugging him for another quintet; one of these days...

The Fife was one of the highlights of the recital--great piece. If he doesn't have it published, he should!

Kudos to Adam for his arrangements, too. Interesting way to handle the string parts in the finale to 1812....
