The Deck Special **Available for Download!**

Post by CC »

Here is the recording known as the "Deck Special."

It's Warren Deck, playing 14 orchestral excerpts with the Houston Symphony trombone section.

It was recorded at the Second National Tuba Euphonium Symposium Workshop (predecessor to the ITEC) at North Texas State University in May of 1980.

I do not own the rights to this recording, found it and am sharing.

*You do have to register in order to download**

Enjoy!

This is a hard to come by recording... not many people are willing to give it up. The first excerpt, fountains is all distorted.. however, when the distortion ends.. WOW! Also one of the nicest live recordings of Prok 5 I've ever heard... complete with talking from audience members. Gotta love a bootleg!

It really makes those who were familiar with Deck's playing appreciate and miss what he brought to the table.

Good luck finding someone who will freely run off 200 copies at the request of every darn person to read Tubenet.

Ditto to all of that. Warren's playing on this recording is absolutely incredible and most of the time jaw dropping. The Houston t-bone section sounds great too, just slightly "out weighted" if ya catch my drift. The last excerpt is Sym Fan and Warren rips it out on his Holton along with the others.

What would be of most value is:

Who put this together? The excerpts are deinitely recorded on hand held tape in a masterclass. The distortion of the beginning of fountains is evident of that, as the tape recorder is being pulled from someone's pocket?

The Prok 5 is a little different quality.. mini disc, perhaps?

Now.. who did the recording?

I'll admit, I bootlegged almost 4 seasons worth of Philly Orchestra concerts when I was in my undergrad, and they are priceless. My hats are off to the bootlegger of this one.. it's a rare find, like I said previously.

If it is on the web, it must be true! And as Ray stated, the web and TubeNet makes is a definitive yes!

Take THAT John Fowler! If you truly believe, your beliefs can create a new reality! :D

Many, many thanks for putting this up for the good of all. My teacher and fellow students will get a lot out of this.

The sadness of Mr.Deck's shortened career reminds me of the sadness of Bo Jackson's shortened career. The brightest stars usually don't burn the longest. The most shocking thing to me about this recording is the quality of his sound. Now THATS shock and awe...
