"Yahoo" Music Jukebox is an accurate description

Post by Randy Beschorner »

Okay, so this is a rant. My apologies.

A few years ago, I switched to MusicMatch Plus with the lifetime upgrade premium. I was happy with the displays, the library functions and playlist support. But unfortunately, programmer bloat took over.

MusicMatch decided to add streaming audio, on-line album search functions, more and more crap. The result was that the program became unwieldy, a memory hog and caused conflicts with other applications. Those wonderful .M3U playlists were discontinued for their own internal proprietary structure, but you could still export to .M3U for other applications (CD labeling software, other players, etc. Library functions were still passable so I put up with the aggravation. Yahoo bought out MusicMatch and filled the software with even more bloat with links to "Yahoo Unlimited" and other monthly fee collecting systems. They did away with the customizable screen displays of the original MusicMatch and removed the ability to create .M3U files or export to a .M3U file format, effectively shooting down any ability to use the Yahoo version with any other software application.

I'm in the process of going back to WinAmp after all these years. While the display isn't quite what I'd like, it works on less RAM, does the job well and gets me my music, playlist files and portable device interface that functions in a straightforward, non-convoluted approach.

Seems to be a better product without trying to make everything proprietary.

End of Rant.

Two questions:

1. Do you have other jukebox software that you like?
2. How do I get WinAmp to play/burn Real Audio files?

Thank you for your indulgence and help.

I have the same sentiments about the bloated mess called "Acrobat Reader". I use Foxit Reader--much smaller and very fast.
