What're you playing on the 4th?
Just curious about what other people are doing musically on the 4th?
I'll be sitting in (for a friend who's out of town) with our local community band. They're playing a couple concerts- one in the morning and one early afternoon. Then our brass band is playing a concert in the late afternoon. I'll be taking the evening off- probably a good thing.
Hope it isn't too hot!

Despite my best efforts, the Diamond State Concert Band will again put up with me in a main stage waterfront Independence Day concert in Wilmington, Deleware.
You'd've think that they'd learned better by now!

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

You playing on the bandstand at Franklin Field or downtown on the mall? I have alot of incredible memories of both places as I grew up in Rome and graduated from RFA in 1978. I remember when the Syracuse Symphony guys played in the band and later I was fortunate to play in the band. Are you a native?Tabor wrote:Rome community band

With Temps predicted to be @ 116 in Las Vegas on Wednesday, I am foregoing any listening opportunities to stay in the pool. I will have some fine American music on, will drink a bunch of fine domestic light beer, eat a bunch of fine domestic cuisine, and get to bed before the imbeciles hit the road. I feel bad for the Las Vegas Phil guys and gals playing in the heat at Hills Park.

We play Cosmo's Bar and Grill in Orange beach, Alabama at 6pm on the forth. This is where all the pretty people go. I swear if I was not entertaining, I doubt if I would be allowed in the place. Friday, we play the Parrot-Dize Bar (our favorite watering hole because they let us do our "R" rated material).
We open for Richard Bowden and his Moon and the Starz band at the Music City Texas Theater on July 7th in Linden, Texas. We will all crowd into John Reno's Jeep Cherokee. Pulling a trailer with our p.a. will not be necessary because we will use Don Henley's system he installed at the theater. It ought to be a good one.
We play 30 minutes to open the show and then load up and head back to New Orleans to play for "Six String" on Sunday. I'm probably too old for all this.

Call time is 7:30 AM for a Dixieland band on a truck in a parade, playing mostly patriotic tunes and the occasional trad jazz classic. Yup, tuba gets to take a few choruses... (Location, if you're keeping score with Mapquest: Rolling Meadows, IL)
Then I change clothes from the red vest to the business suit and tie to go to work at the Steinway showroom (ahhh, the glamorous world of retail--to be open on July 4th...) for a number of hours. (Downers Grove, IL)
Then I "haul buns" and drive 55 miles to play an evening concert with FullScore Chamber Orchestra (Zion, IL). Other than the annual patriotic repertoire, the most fun pieces to play will be the Copland warhorses from Rodeo: "Buckaroo Holiday" and "Hoe-Down." Should be done around 9:45 PM, and then an hour's drive home (Barrington, IL).
And yes, I have to open the store on Thursday morning, but I ain't complainin'...

My condolences for the Calculus class and for 7:55AM!tubaphore wrote:I have a Calculus class at 7:55 AM on the 3rd and 5th, so..... After I rehydrate myself from a likely late night tomorrow night, I'll probably go spend a couple hours in the practice room, go for a run, then watch the fireworks.
I wish I had a gig tomorrow.

Hmmm.... just re-read the original post. I think I will probably be playing either a Mirafone 186 5V BBb or a Conn 36K for my 4th of July gigs.
