Post by Ulli »

I know, there are the Denis Wick mpc 1 -5, as well the mike Finn 4.
with the old small European shank. (Boosey Tubas) But are there other manufacturers and brands with such mpc?

I don't know about the situation currently, but one used to be able to special-order Schilke and Bach mouthpieces with the small shank (I've got one of each). I suspect that Bach probably doesn't take special orders now.

And Doug Elliott can probably supply a component small shank for any of his tuba mouthpieces. (Got one of those too).

I found a Kelly 24AW and a G&W Diablo with the shank size you specified-also a Schilke66
We pronounce it Guf Coast

About any boutique manufacturer will make the small shank on special order.

But as listed above, about the only truly stock item is the Wick, and the only "special" order that is readily available is the PT.

Side note: On my Besson BBb, I can use a Kelly. Even though it only goes in @ 1/2 inch, it is sufficient to keep it secure because of the light weight of the mouthpiece, and I do not notice any intonation difficulties or abnormalities as a result. All I have to do is push my main tuning slide in slightly from its usual position.
