The United States Marine Band will be performing at the 2007 Texas Bandmasters Association convention in San Antonio, TX. There will be two concerts given, both at the Lila Cockrell Theatre near the convention center.
The first concert is on Friday, July 20, at 7:30 pm. This will be the full band, and the concert is highlighted by a new transcription of Bernstein's "Symphonic Dances from West Side Story" done by Paul Lavender. The second concert is on Saturday, July 21, at 2:30 pm. This program consists of smaller ensembles and chamber music. Of particular interest to the Tubenet crowd is "Fanfares, Marches, Hymns & Finale" for brass ensemble by Bruce Broughton.
Full concert information is available on the Marine Band website:
Friday 7/20
Saturday 7/21
...and at the Texas Bandmasters Association website:
Friday 7/20
Saturday 7/21
The Marine Band will also have a booth on the exhibit floor at the convention. Feel free to stop by and ask for the tuba players. Even if we aren't there, you'll still be making the treble clef musicians feel unloved and unwanted. With luck, we'll be able to find a few of you there and put faces to the screen names and avatars.
See you in San Antonio.
