Drugs in my leadpipe
This one is too good not to share. I recently purchased on e-bay, in a single lot, a gold-plated Conn Helleburg, plus a Conn sousaphone neckpipe and two tuning bits.
The description was as follows:
UP FOR BID IS A CONN-BELLEBERG TUBA MOUTHPIECE WITH ADDITIONAL REMOVABLE PIECES. THEY ARE ATTACHED TOGETHER NOW, BUT ARE REMOVABLE IF NEEDED. I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TUBA PARTS, ALL I KNOW IS THAT WHEN MY DAUGHTER WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL SHE BOUGHT THIS TO START IN THE BAND. IT IS USED BUT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
When it arrived, I took it all apart, and set about cleaning it. As soon as I tried to put a snake in the gooseneck, I hit something hard. I looked inside, and a small screen was blocking my way; I gently pried it out with tweezers, and took a whiff; the odor of weed was unmistakable.
I guess when the Seller's daughter quit the band, she found another use for her lead pipe!
Anyway, it's all cleaned up and playing fine now.

When I was in high school, I had a couple of guys try to steal my mouthpiece from my horn during pep band. At first they tried to buy it off me, but when I said no, they tried to take it when I set my horn down. I managed to stop them, but to say the least I was not pleased with them.

With a setup like that you would also need a snack tray on the sousa!

When I was in high school ALL the tuba, trombone, and euph mouhtpieces were stolen at one time. This included a Bach 6 1/2 Al that I had puchased on my own.
Long story short : All the pothead drummers stole them and use them to make bongs . Someone put some pressure on them to return them and they were never charged with the theft. Mine smelled so bad of pot I just threw it away and bought a new. Not an easy task for a 15 year old kid with no job . I had to bum around the neighborhood for odd jobs to scrape up the $25.00 .

You don't suppose they got band credit for spending time in the practices rooms, do you?pierso20 wrote:when I was in highschool, 2 guys got suspended and then expelled. They were caught using tuba mouthpieces as bongs in the practice rooms...gha

Why mess with the small stuff. Fill a sousa bell with grass and huff right through the mouthpipe. Sounds like something out of a Cheece and Chong movie!

I have heard of things like this that happened in Singapore and Malaysia where drug possession means a summary execution--no questions asked...Neptune wrote:Lucky it was not being shipped from overseas.
Image the consequences if customs found the dope
The poor recipients got punished!
