Does this look like a VMI 3301 to anyone else? I should know (since i used to have one) but I could be wrong. Does conn even make a 2J anymore?

I've seen this horn listed on eBay before. It's just like my Conn CC, except this one looks a little nicer and it's $300 less than mine was. I would have liked to have gotten a case like this one's too, instead of a gig bag.

Overall, I like mine. These are nice playing old horns. The addition of "a master tuning rod... on the main tuning slide to allow for rapid adjustment of all pitches" is something I've thought about putting on mine as well.

I was told by the man who sold me my horn that it is a 3J model. I trust him, but was wondering if anybody here on Tubenet knows the difference(s) between a 2J and a 3J. This eBay listing mentions the 3J having larger valve casings. Would anybody know the measurements of the 2J and 3J casings for me to check? And, are there any other differences between the two models? My thanks to any repliers in advance.

A 3j has an 18ish inch bell diameter.
A 2j has a 16.5ish inch bell diameter.

All you need to tell which you have is a tape measure.

CJK - Thank you for the information. According to what you've said, I've got a 2J and not a 3J. I found more information on old TubeNet threads about the 2Js and 3Js too. Info on Horn-u-copia also said that a 3J would have the model number on the front of the bell, as well as saying it had been made in Elkhart. Mine has either of those. It just says Conn on the front. Again, I appreciate the information.

And in regards to the eBay horn that this thread is actually about, the auction ended with no bids. Maybe it will get relisted with a lower price. They're really nice horns.

Oh, well. Now, in the spirit of truth in advertising, I guess I better get my TubeNet name changed....
