President's Own in Ithaca, NY

Post by KevinMadden »

Got in about an hour ago from a USMC Band concert at Cornell's Bailey hall.

OMG

The performance was absolutely incredible, I don't believe I've ever heard a musical group that clean, well blended and in tune.

A few highlights for me:
Hammersmith: Three tubas and ...euphoniums sounding like one, I don't even know how you make a 6/4 C a 5/4 C and an EEb play like that together, but man was it impressive.

Stars and Stripes:
So I've seen tis done with one piccolo, obviously
Two is a challenge
Three would be Impressive
but four!!!!????!!!!

bravo, just an excellent, excellent performance.
If these guys are coming within an hour of your town, go it is well worth it.

I got to see them when they were in San Antonio for TBA. I've seen another DC band and thought they were excellent, but the President's Own is just in a class all by themselves. It was the best concert I've seen to date.

Thanks for the nice reviews and for coming out to see us. There have been some good halls and great audiences, especially Rochester and Ithaca. "Hammersmith" is a tough sell for some tour audiences, but that thing is fu-u-u-u-un to play.

We're in Burlington, VT, right now, on the shore of Lake Champlain. Tonight we play in St. Albans, and tomorrow night we'll be in Newport. After that, it's on to New Hampshire and Maine. Two weeks down, five to go...

My family and I have tickets to see you guys in Springfield, Mass. I'm psyched. Also, it's nice to see Holst on a program that's not either of the 'Military Band' suites (not that there's anything wrong with them... :) ).

See you in Springfield. That'll be our first crack at Scherzo Capriccioso. It's a real white-knuckle chart. Wish us luck.
