New CD- Tuba Helper- David Zerkel

Post by David Zerkel »

Hi Everybody!

My new CD project, Tuba Helper, is finally finished and ready to ship.

As the name might imply, the thrust of this project is to provide a recording of some of the standard works for tuba that advanced high school or early college level players might study. I recorded them all on big tuba (PT6P, to cut this off at the pass!) since that is the horn most likely to be in the lap of this level of player. I also chose to do it on big tuba because there are not very many recordings that feature solo literature performed all on CC.

The program looks like this:

Haddad- Suite for Tuba
Capuzzi- Andante and Rondo
Lebedev- Concerto in One Movement
Marcello- Sonata in F Major
Vaughan Williams- Six Studies in English Folksong
Hartley- Suite for Unaccompanied Tuba
Bach- Air and Bouree

If you would like to buy a copy of Tuba Helper, fire off a check for $15 to me at the address below, or shoot me an e-mail at dzerkel@uga.edu with your contact information. Since I am hopelessly Old School, I do not do Paypal, so a check is the preferred method of payment. If you must buy online, I would refer you to Mark Records at www.markcustom.com. I'm sure that sometime soon, it will also be available on Amazon.

While there is nothing remarkably bleeding edge about this project, I felt like it was about time that someone did something like this. I hope that you will enjoy it!

Best regards,
Dave

Not that there is anything wrong with F tuba solos, but I think we should all applaud Dave for this "ground breaking" recording project. :D

ABSOLUTELY! Since the day I started teaching, I have wished for more high-quality recordings of educational literature. There are so many great recordings of the serious, difficult stuff, and I mean no offense to those (my students always listen to them as well), but I'm sure that this will become an often-used tool in my studio.

Huge thanks to Mr. Zerkel for taking on this project and producing such a great resource!

All that, and I haven't even heard it yet... can't wait!

Marcello's Sonata in F Major is on the list for Tuba Student in Falcone AND the Young-Artist Tuba division at ITEC. The Hartley Suite is also on the Young-Artist ITEC list.

This CD looks like a must-have, especially for those who are planning on entering these competitions.

Gotta agree with Bloke and others, this is something that is a great/overdue concept. Most of my freshman/sophmore and even some juniors and seniors of mine have/are studying these pieces during their time with me. Thanks David. Check's in the mail!!!!

Dave is a musician whose talents and musicality are often overlooked in our community. I am thrilled that he decided to do this CD, and I'm sure it will become a staple in anyone who plays or teaches tuba's collection.

Congratulations, Dave, on a very important project to us in the tuba community. I think I speak for many, if not all of us, when I say thank you for this recording!

Now! What do you want me to add to the price for shipping to Toronto?

Well, I'll be! I've been waiting and hoping for someone to do this type of project for the past 6 months.

Mr. Zerkel, thank you for putting out something we all need a copy of!

Just received mine; sounds great, and I have three students who it will help starting tomorrow! Thanks again for delivering a great product that really benefits the community, Dave!

ps: Though I'll still never be able to play or listen to the Lebedev without thinking of Looney Tunes.

Hey Dave,

Just finished giving your new cd a listen... BRAVO!!!! It is of inestimable value to the Tuba community and students everywhere, not to mention the superb, musical playing.

I'm also very impressed with the program notes, for they are obviously very well researched and erudite. Did you write them as well? If so, bravo on that, too.

Thanks again for all your wonderful contributions to the Tuba artistic canon.

A fine collection of old favorites, performed with loving care by one of our great artists.

From the liner notes:
" ..... good music, fun to play, and enjoyable to listen to."

'Nuff said!

Played to perfection with the glorious sound of a full-sized tuba.
Well done!
