Is there a Wind Band arrangement of Knight Templar?

Post by Geotuba »

After being blown away by the Black Dyke performance of George Allen's "Knight Templar" in this YouTube clip - especially the playing (and posture :P ) of the BBb basses - I was wondering if there was a Wind Band/Wind Orchestra arrangement available (since I don't have a Brass Band to play it in!!)

That will be my old mates Matt Routley and Danny Sinclair , brilliant Bb bass team , fantastic sound and range , two brilliant players of the younger generation of UK Bb Players ( Andy Cattanach ,Andy Prichard , John Davies , Tim Evans are other names that spring to mind) even Big Gav Saynor is dabbling with the two lunged beastie now!!!
don't know if any of the George Allen marches are under copyright the only parts I have played have been either manuscript or reprints from publishers ( can't rembember off the top of my head who published Knight Templar).
If you can find the recording made a few years ago by some north eastern bands ( ever ready , Langborough etc) they did a complete cd of george allen marches..including

The Wizard
Imperioso
Impetus
Shawville
Lefebvre
Battle Abbey
Raby
Diomed
Bravura
Jupiter
The Diplomat
Knight Templar
Senator

great listening

You're welcome - it is worth noting that this performance took place around midnight near the end of a long day for running from village to village, marching and playing in a whole bunch of contests, many of which they won.

And we can only speculate on the quantity of beer that was consumed in the process  - however much it was it didn't seem to have much of a negative effect :P

Well, no beer at all! And it's between 12-14 villages between 4pm-12pm, with a short march to the stand, then a march such as that as the "Contest" piece.

At Wire this year we played George Allan's "The Wizard" at Whit Friday , brilliant march and after 10 marches round saddleworth dry we played a blinder at Delph , fantastic atmosphere and the village was packed out...I think we got best Euph there too and overall 6th place
below is the link from the bands website with some photos from whit friday , we were behind fountain city band for most of the night , brilliant atmosphere if you can get there..
No Worries Andy , got a lot of time and repsect for players like yourself , Matt Routley , Danny Sinclair and the other boys I have mentioned , top players and geezers too , brilliant inspiration!!!
