James Gourlay recorded this concerto. You can probably find a copy if you do some searching. Good Luck

It is a very recent work, I think it was composed in 2000. I am performing it with a wind group in February. I've been working on it (with piano) for the last two months now and I'm really starting to dig it. I wasn't really sure what to do with it at first... you really need to get it under your fingers before you can phrase properly. The articulations (accents) in the outer movements are very important. The middle movement is tricky to phrase, you need to really focus.

The technical licks are very hard - they are not in any type of pattern that I've seen (ie they're not scale/arpeggio licks like the RVW or Gregson). I'm still not very comfortable with the third movement, but that will come with time. My teacher wasn't really sure about the piece, but now she's starting to like it too. Don't judge the piece until you can play it well.

One thing I did notice is that there are a lot of percussion parts in the piece. The timpani parts played on piano do not sound bad, but all of the cymbal solos (in the 1st movement) are not played by the piano. Sounds kinda empty in those spots, you'll know what I'm talking about when you play it with piano.
