Jump not to conclusions, Robert. I've played a number of old 4 valve horns on which the 4th valve tubing equaled 2+3 instead of 1+3. Sander was famous for that. Some old Conns as well. I am not positive about Alexes - I've never played one like that, but it would not surprise me in the least, if the Alex were old enough.
Best way to find out is to play it. At any rate, the fix is usually not such a big deal. And well worth the effort and cost if the horn is a good one.
