oh yeah! i was there and probably tried out ever single tuba in the convention. Personally, the THOR and PT-606 were my favorites.

I hope you realize the extreme good fortune that came your way in getting to trial so many great horns in one room. I grew up in San Antonio and wort of took TMEA for granted. Now that I am too far and too busy I really pine for those days. I am a bit envious of you, man! Glad you had such a sweet time in my hometown. It is a great place for such an extravaganza of music. Maybe I will get to go next year â€¦

Heard from one top pro: "A good York takes what you give it and makes the most of it. A 2165, on the other hand, was designed to take the most that Warren Deck could give it."

I also really miss the easy access to TMEA. But it is largely compensated by the Army Tuba Conference.

Unfortunately, these are some of the things that seem to go with music conferences, these days. Remember how a Dillon's tuba grew its own legs and walked out during the 2007 TUSABTEC? This is another relatively new development. I know the Miraphone booth lost at least two mouthpieces during TMEA.

The tubas were still out done by the trumpet players. All through the convention center at TMEA you could here trumpets blasting as loud and high as they possibly could. I am not sure if they were really trying the horns out or just having a "HUGE pissing match" themselves.

I played scales to try out horns... is that the proper way to do so?
