ritmo di 4 balutte

Post by eupher61 »

This is in Fountains.

what the dooglie is a balutte?

I know, it's a parachute/balloon hybrid, used to brake aircraft, spaceships, cars, etc....but did Respeghi really foresee the invention?

And, what kind of rhythm does 4 of the ballutes have...doesn't that depend on the speed of the vehicle they're stopping?

or, did it mean something else??

I never studied Italian, but some general sense of languages might suggest a reading of

ritmo di 4 batutte

which likely would indicate a rhythm in 4 beats a bar.

Good point!

Any chance to put a scan of the score context up here in this thread?

Sorry, I don't have a score to post, but the section in question is in 3/4 - one beat per bar grouped in 4 bars. Sort of like 12/4 but not quite.

ritmo di 4 battute...

Post by wtuba »

It is as Klaus indicates; i.e., a direction to conduct it in a 4 beat pattern, with each beat being one 3/4 measure...

To fully explain the translation: The word battuta, in this context, means measure or bar. Battute is the plural form.
Ritmo means not only rhythm, but is also more generally used to indicate beat or pulse. So: beat per 4 measures.
spelling nazi alert: It helps searching the dictionary if you get all the t's in the right place :P

bite me.

in the part I was looking at it looked like an L. Forgive my ignorance. Maybe it's obvious I've never actually played Fountains, nor seen the part live and in person?
