Does not the answer depend on if you are really serious about playing tuba professionally, or expect to be playing as a hobby?

Either way, remember it is the skills of players which win auditions - not the model of tuba. So play what you enjoy and what YOU sound best playing.

And if you can find a good Neptune that plays in tune, they are a really good deal. Of course the problem is that the Neptune doesn't really compare as an audition horn to the PT-6 and HB-50, you hardly ever see Neptunes in the final rounds.
I can't imagine my Neptune would ever hold me back at an audition, the only thing that will hold me back is my own lack of ability.

I'd like to get some feedback on a problem I'm currently facing with my CC tuba. I've been playing a Gronitz PCK for a little over a year now, overall I really like the feel of the horn and particularly the sound it has. But, I've been having serious problems with consistancy, both of articulation and evenness.

Get a smaller mouthpiece. Maybe your problem is that bathtub you're sticking in it.

The horn you have is great. Keep it. It probably does everything you need it to.

Or go with one of the others if you're looking for a change. They're ALL good and very little of anything any of us might type will help you in your search.

The PT-88 huge as mentioned above is huge.

Ask your instructor and when he tells you to go try them out... go try 'em out.

Again... Every horn you listed, including the one you play already, is used by some pro or another.

Don't fall into the same trap so many of us have! I'll bet there are a couple dozen of us looking at this thread remembering that horn we sold years ago that we realize was an amazing instrument and we miss it terribly!
