another interesting review

Post by TubaBob »

Tuba Player Roger Bobo of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, turned up in Manhattan's Carnegie Recital Hall last week to give one of the oddest recitals of the season—an evening devoted to pieces written or arranged for the tuba. Included were two tuba sonatas by Paul Hindemith and Alec Wilder, plus Jules Semler-Collery's Barcarolle et Chanson Bachique. Although Mr. Bobo huffed manfully, the tuba tones were muffled and a trifle ponderous. But from the New York Times critic, the soloist received an accolade worthy of T. S. Eliot and ready for Bartlett. Said the Times:

Mr. Bobo played the tuba very well.
