I recently purchased a Miraphone 188. I absolutly love it the only "problem" I have found is the 4th valve bounces when it is let up and it's driving me crazy (not really, that just sounds good). It has the one side rubber and one side cork just like 3 out of the other 4 valves have and none of them bounce not even the 5th valve (which has both sides rubber). So what to do, should I just ignore it or should I take action.
Thanks!

Congrats on buying one of the true classics. You are a lucky guy.Dean E wrote:Posted: Sat Feb 04, 2006 3:01 amBandmaster wrote:Go to http://www.mcmaster.com/ and look for Amber Polyurethane Rod 1/4" Diameter, 6" Length part numbers 8784K821 (40A Durometer hardness) or 8784K822 (60A Durometer hardness). Some people like the harder one for the stop and the softer for the return.
I followed Bandmaster's recommendation and bought the polyurethane rods from McMaster-Carr.

Well.....
if you are down in the area of WWBW in the near future, let me know you are coming and bring the horn along. I'd be happy to change out all the bumpers with the magic stuff that I use on my horns - no charge. I know you love this horn and I'd be happy to contribute a little of my time and materials to make sure it plays exactly the way you want it to.
Peace
Roger

Re: Bouncy Bumpers
I had the same problem with every valve on my Rudy when it arrived from the factory. It had neoprene bumpers though so I attributed it to that and investigated various options but never took action. Then when my 2nd valve siezed up I was goaded into action and took it to Ron Partch who took all the valves apart and reseated and realigned them as well as tightening up the springs. Without changing the bumpers at all this made a huge improvement. So - lesson is, take it to a professional! I se you have already had an offer from someone in your local area - I would definitely take them up on that offertubatom91 wrote:I recently purchased a Miraphone 188.
