Hope some of you tubenetters can make it to my recital. Just a reminder that Kendrick Johnson has a master's euphonium recital at 2pm. Mine is at 5pm. Felix Burghelea has his master's tuba recital at 6:30pm and Heather McDown has her senior euphonium recital at 8. Kendrick's recital is in the Concert Hall and the rest are all in the Recital Hall. See ya there.

All on the same day? Man, wish I could make it - that would be fun! Good luck, Colonel - hopefully I'll see you this summer up in Cincy!

Maiden

Good luck Chris!

I'm sure this will be a fantastic performance.

Just thought I'd be a euphonium nerd here for a second about the title for the Alfven piece.

According to Sverre Olsrud, the title translated as "Herdsmaiden's Dance", not "Herbsmaidens Dance"

A few of us heard what was probably the first performance of this piece on euph in England about 10 years ago or so, played amazingly by Sverre. He told us at that time that it was the "Herdmaidens dance", but with a bit of Scandinavian inflection in his English, this could easily be heard as "herbsmaidens", which seems to have persisted. Of course, herdmaidens (you know, like the lady watching over the herd) makes a bit more sense since it would be roughly analogous to the idea of a shepherdess, whereas a maiden of herbs, on the other hand, raises all sorts of interesting questions.

Anyway, if you are in the area, or even if you aren't, go hear the song of the dancing maidens, and the other great stuff Chris will play!

Good luck, and sorry for griping about the title.

Thank you, Sir! I certainly appropriate your attention to this impotent issue. I am quite curtain that your recital will be an enormous succession. We have all learned to expectorate the best from you!

Should you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contradict me.

Since early,

Simone.
