It's a shame.

The shame is that an organization like this is allowed to fall apart, while other notable "institutions" are repeatedly bailed out with your money and mine.

I want to thank profusely those who responded with their generous donations and offers of assistance following my last communication. While over 250 individuals contributed just over $12,000, this, along with the many other efforts and contributions of IAJE staff, Board members, and association partners, was simply not enough to address the accumulated debt of the organization or its urgent need for cash relief.

I hadn't heard of trouble before this...I wonder why there wasn't a massive effort of jazz benefit concerts to help raise money?

I hate to see these groups fall, as each one falls we lose a piece of our heritage.

This is freaking horrible.

Soon, people are going to wonder where the music is, and when we say nobody was willing to pay for it, they are going to rant and rave some more that if we were "real" musicians, we would be out there, playing for no money. As if musicians wanted to WALK from gig to gig with no food or places to rest.

The trouble is partly that there is a diminishing audience for jazz, which coincides with a diminishing flow of money; the audience for the jazz may be smaller than the audience for classical music AND has less money.

Lots of people say they like jazz but where are the Jazz TV shows? We should be seeing "America's next Jazz Idol."

The government will support jazz but within the boundaries of the NEA.

Incidentally, the "government" bailed out Wall Street) and will bail out the lending institutions) because, if they hadn't, a ripple effect would have gone through the leanding industry which would have resulted in financial chaos causing the price of tubas to rise to even more ridiculous heights.

This just underscores the fragile nature of jazz (and live music for that matter).

Take every opportunity you can to cultivate audiences, both current and future, to help educate and enlighten them so they will support this music in the future.
