And now yesterday this.

This really sucks, but the drum corps world is very generous and both corps have gotten help for the time being until they can get everything straightened out.

I'd venture a guess that you're seeing crystal meth at work.

I marched with the Connecticut Hurricanes for several years, and I can synpathize with both corps. The equipment we had at that time was old and crappy, but it was all we had. I wish all the best for the corps in question, and hope they can get back on the field soon.

Metal theft is big, with metal prices so high. I recall Ben had drain pipe stolen from his home some months back. All the honyak sees when he (and most of them are "he's") is metal, not what our instruments mean to us. MA, you hit it on the head: Meth.

Reminds me of 1998 I believe when the Spartans equipment truck got burned to the ground, a folding staircase (which is stil in use on the new truck) was all that survived.

I'm the 'music director' of said corps. (yes, it's true, it's a habit)

The theft is truly unfortunate, we serve a great group of all-age musicians who dedicate so much to be a part of the organization. These are people who have gone above and beyond their school organizations to wish to pursue music at an intense, athletic level.

...be on the lookout for a PILE of Yamaha 321 convertible BBb's.

That all being said, the theft wont hurt the group musically or competitively at all, as many comrades have stepped up to help out in the interim and all bases are covered.

On the positive note, the show we have is great and the season will be fun. We need a few more low brass players! Come on out and we'll teach ya up good. You'll get great training, all my brass staffers have their masters degrees in performance and are great teachers -- and my program features the same type of pedagogy you'd find in great college brass pedagogy programs. Through this approach I've been able to put players into some TOP college programs (yes TOP) with huge scholarships.

This is also a weekends-only group (as opposed to full-time), so you can still hold a job / take summer classes. We dont really tour so you dont have to leave your girlfriend / boyfriend / mother / dog at home all summer long.

I need a few more kickbutt players to round out the line. The group rehearses about 15 minutes outside of NYC. You wont regret it, and you'll learn as much about low brass playing as you will in any other summer program, I personally guarantee it.

Listen here for a clip of our 2006 champion brassline.
