Concertos: pno reductions and recordings

Post by LARSONTUBA »

Hello All--

I am curious to know if any of the following concertos have piano reductions available.
I have searched as much as I think I can on the internet and found little information on the topic.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Here are the pieces:

Vagn Holmboe - Concerto
Ole Schmidt - Concerto
Kalevi Aho - Concerto
The Kraken - Rodney Newton

I am also wondering if any of you have recordings of some of the following concertos:
Roger Kellaway - Songs of Ascent
Rodney Newton - The Kraken
Valerie Struckow - Concerto
Roland Szentpali - Concerto
Jan Bach- Concerto

Thanks again-
Andy Larson

I don't have any direct help, but try writing to the composers and maybe they could help. If not the composers, try the publishers.

Good luck,

The Holmboe Concerto is avail at Musicroom.com in a piano reduction:
http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/0152681/details.html" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank
It was recorded for BIS by Jens Bjorn Larsen

The Ole Schmidt: http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/052048/details.html" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank
Jens recorded the Concerto with his old orchestra on DACAAPO records:
http://www.hbdirect.com/album_detail.php?pid=788213" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

The AHO is published by Fennica Gehrman (http://www.fennicagehrman.fi/sheet.php" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank)

As far as I know, the Kellaway was never commercially recorded although memory serves me that there IS infact a bootleg of Warren Deck playing it with the NYPhil.
The same goes for the Szentpali, and I am sure that someone is busy getting this ready to record this. Contact BIM music, they can tell you as they own the rights.

The STRUKOW Concerto is another to look for a bootleg. Jens played it after his big competition win years ago and I have heard, although do not have, a recording of this. At the time there were few that could play this, now is really not the case. Contact BIM and they may have a lead for you on this one as well.

The Jan Bach doen't appear to have a commercial recording but check out the link:
http://www.janbach.com/TubaConcerto.mp3" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank
That means that Jan has aa recording, and maybe if you order the work he will send you a tape of it...who knows. :D

Thats what I know, and hope that helps.
