I'm sorry I can't offer you any assistance, but I can tell you that the range of abilities of "degreed professionals" can span a very wide range. I will admit, however, that usually there are some skills connected. My experience isn't as broad as yours. I have only met a few who could be convincing on many instruments and no one convincing on any instrument.
