Sometime in the next 4-8 years, I'd like to see one in Australia, where I will soon be returning. Would anyone come if it is that far away from everything on Earth???

In Australia, the Melbourne International Festival of Brass occurs every year. It is for all brass including tuba and euphonium. I was there a few years ago and it was one of the finest brass conferences I have ever been at.

well, this entire process is being revamped, and being worked on in such a way as to alleviate the site host from bottom line financial responsibility, which has always been an issue. Obviously, an issue which cut down on the variety and numbers of places available to host these conferences.
Just as with "like" organizations, ITEA is having to deal with rising costs in hosting such conferences, not to mention the costs associated for attendees. MENC, the U.S national Music Ed. organization has recently canceled all future national conferences as a result of this type of cost, and as we heard not too long ago, IAJE has folded, with some of the issue being related to conference costs.

In regards to Australia, Steve Rosse hosted at least a couple of "Tubamania" events over the years. (but I also heard him swear off of doing them, too) I've heard nothing but great things about the brass symposium that Brian mentioned.

I have been to a *lot* of brass conferences over the years. There were two that stood out, the 1984 International Brass Conference at Indiana University. All brass groups (horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba-euphonium) had their annual conference at the same place at the same time.

In 1995 Indiana University hosted the Summit Brass conference. Again it was open to all instruments. I believe that a few instrument organizations designated this as their annual conference - TUBA did not, weeks later was the 1995 conference at Northwestern.

What was great about these conferences was that multiple events were going on with all instruments and you could go to all sessions. Yes this was a logistical nightmere for the host and required the huge facilities of Indiana University - something like this should be every 10-15 years.
