Source for Rex Martin Solo CD?

Post by joh_tuba »

I was doing some googling and discovered that Rex Martin recently released a solo cd based on a live recital recording in Japan.

The only distributors I can find are all in Japan. Not quite sure how to go about ordering. :/

This is amazon.jp so those interested can see what I'm looking at: http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... f%26sa%3DN

This is something I would like to own. Any leads appreciated. :)

I could email Rex Martin but I'm sure others would like to know the answer too.

$40 with shipping, ouch. I got mine for only 2500 yen last week in Tokyo. Also picked up the Ejii Iwai excerpt CD.

This is a great CD but ordering it from Japan is expensive. To make this CD more accessible, I just put it on my website for $19.98. I will put sound clips soon!

Simply gorgeous playing on this CD. But for those of us in Chicago who have the pleasure to hear Rex play really live (not on a CD) on a somewhat regular basis, it is a testament to how little, if any, editing and splicing he would have done in the production of this CD.

There is actually ZERO editing on the CD. Its as "raw" a cd as you'll ever find, all it is is one straight recital beginning to end. It is a fantastic recording, very indicative of his playing. The audience is delayed in applauding after each piece because they were asked to hold their applause for a few seconds to help get a clean recording.

From a recording perspective, this is really a step backwards to the days that a recording was done in a single take - just like the early days of recording! This seperates the men from the boys when there is no splicing or edting. I applaud Rex for doing this and coming out with a great CD. I am glad that we were able to bring this to everyone without paying a hefty shipping fee from Japan.

This is a CD that should definitely be in every brass player's arsenal. Mr. Martin's musicality and incredible sound is among the best I've ever heard. Thanks to Brian for making this available!

Hi Folks,

Just want to echo some of what has already been said about this fine recording. I acquired this recently in Japan and it is one of the finest tuba recordings I've heard. Some very tasty and lyrical playing on wonderful rep. This is a fantastic educational tool for us all.
For the record, Rex is a highly regarded teacher/player in Japan.
