I also found a recording on someone's MySpace Music page of the concerto with piano and a recording of the second movement w/ orchestra on the (I think) U of Oregon tuba studio page.
Found 'em:
Adrian Rodriguez w/ Piano
Michael Grose w/ Orchestra

Interesting. I was a graduate student at KU when this was being "worked out." Scott Watson had recently purchased a Boosey Eb and was playing it quite a bit...I'm nearly positive he premiered the piece on that Eb with the US Army Band in 1997.tubashaman wrote:I was chatting with someone who has played the piece on another forum, and they met the composer and said he wrote it with the CC tuba in mind. I feel the fingerings and the overall "sound" works best on CC.
I will agree that it does work fine on C, but I don't think Mr. Barnes would admit to having a particular key of tuba in mind, particularly knowing that Scott was playing and enjoying his new Eb at the time.

Ok, wow what kind of tuba does professor Grose use in that recording. I love the sound. That is the sound I'm looking for. I realize I must be capable of producing that sound
