What's a good mid/high register mpc for the Willson euphoniums? I'm not sure the model #, but it is an older silver one (4v, compensating) with a euro reciever. The current mpc that I used to play on my Yamaha 642 only goes partway in to the reciever, so I'm guessing it takes the euro shank mpcs...
Any ideas?

Re: Willson euphonium mpc question
Jon,
Your Willson with the euro-shank is almost certainly a 2900TA. These have been popularized in the US and with the various Washington, DC military bands by Dr. Brian Bowman and his euphonium studio at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
What kind of mouthpiece are you using on your Yamaha 642? If you are using a Denis Wick mouthpiece such as a Wick 4AL, SM4, or SM3, then you would get the 4AM, SM4M, or SM3M (the last M stands for medium shank). If you are playing Schilke 51D, you need to order a 51D euro-shank. If you are using a Yamaha mouthpiece, check Dave Werden's mouthpiece comparison chart to to cross-link a Yamaha MPC to a Schilke. The numbering systems they use are similar but not completely identical. However, if you are using a Bach mouthpiece, you have to use a tenor shank version and get an adapter fitted, as Bach does not make euro-shank as far as I know. I think DEG makes such an adapter.
Finally, by far the most popular mouthpiece for the Willson is the Brian Bowman 1 (BB1) made by DEG. While not all of Dr. Bowman's students use this mouthpiece, many do. It is similar in shape to a Schilke 51D (smaller than a Wick 4A or 3A) but has a deeper cup, more open throat, and more metal mass than the Schilke 51D.
For mid-high register, the smaller mouthpieces such as the Schilke 51D, Bach 6 1/2 Al, or DEG BB1 work VERY nicely. Personally, I prefer the Wick 4AM and have no issues with range when playing the Willson with that mouthpiece. (Note: I actually use a Wick 4AY with an adapter).
