Yup. It's a souzie bell and I don't think the leadpipe is original, either. Certainly not worth that sort of price... in my opinion.

Let the marketplace decide! My guess is that it will go unsold for a few rounds and then go lower...

That *is* a lot of money for something in that kind of shape.

It would seem that a 24" bell would make an already big and awkward horn bigger and more awkward.... Anyone think it would sound OK?

That is a sousaphone bell. The origanal bells on the conn 2xjs wasn't as forward. It angled up more. i think it's a 20j. The 22j had forward valves. But, the third valve loop is different. the lead pipe looks origanal through. To bad it's to high. could be a fun horn to play around with.

My high school band director (Arkadelphia, about 20 years ago) used to get our 21J bells overhauled to look perfect, but never worried about fixing up the rest of the horns. (You know, since the bells are the only part the audience sees, they are the only part worth fixing up . . .)

It plays as good as any King or Selmer I have seen like it...Good Luck!!
Bid with confidence that a "shipping warehouse only" thinks it's as good as a King or Selmer like it.
