I want to buy a GW mouthpiece for my F Tuba, but I don't know which shank to choose...
Could you help me?
I'm playing a B&S F tuba 3100 (PT 9), bought in France.
May I choose European Shank or Standard Shank?

Standard. It's the same size as a Perantucci "S" shank. It is also referred to as "American" shank. I would get the standard shank if I were you.
A "European" shank is slightly larger. This is the same size as the normal (unmarked) Perantucci mouthpieces. It will fit, but it will stick out further.

I have still a question: two weeks ago, I met Alan Baer in Paris; and he insisted very much about the space between the end of the mouthpiece's shank and the end of the mouthpiece receiver, the gap. He told me that for an F Tuba, this space should be of 6mm. Do you think that will be good with a standard shank?
It's quite important for me, because in France, it's impossible to try american mouthpieces like Doug Eliott, GW or Laskey, and nobody knows about shank differencies... And it's quite expensive for me to buy a lot of mouthpieces just in order to try them...

I am using a G & W Churada for bass tuba playing. My Bass Tuba has a Euro shank (.540") but I have Churadas of both sizes. The standard shank (.520") did make a difference to my horn (It did not work so well) so I got the Euro and it is terrific, responsive and soaringly beautiful.
Always make a good sound; audiences will forget if you miss a note but making a good sound will get you the next job.

The Laskey C and F cup and the GW mouthpieces that are intended for F tuba use will by default come with the correct shank for your horn. When you order from GW let him know your horn and he'll take good care of you.
I'm still a bit partial to the laskey 28C for most of what I tend to do on F but if you just met with Mr. Baer and enjoyed his product(particularly his clarity and a strong yet bright sound) you might also appreciate the MMVI F tuba model. The MMVI doesn't suit my idea of a solo tuba sound BUT if I were sitting in the New York Phil I suspect it would be near perfect.
