Checking the Dillon site
Random thoughts
(as there might be tubenetters dropping by
for Besson day).
The cut CC w/ the Holton bell looks like a
beautiful tuba -- any reports?
The Weltklang BBb is gone -- maybe Rick's
outstanding review helped the sale.
The Miraphone EEb sure looks interesting.
The Schilke CC is gone from the site.
Hoping for some pics of the Besson CC.
Final random thought:
Just grateful that Steve hired Matt as his tuba guy.

Woohoo! I gotta get me one-ah those. Only purple and gold with a "W" for Washington. It's possible to go to games in a boat at Washington.bloke wrote:orange and white...Maybe they're U.T. fans..?? (I kinda doubt it.)
Also, bucking up to the Chinese competition I would gather also. You've seen and sold a Dalyan so you know that they are catching up quality wise. Respected people say nice things about Alloras. If Cervenys remained 'variable' yet costing more, they could lose out to the Chinese. An Allora 186 is about 500-900 less than a similar Cerveny '186-type' horn. If the Cervenys barked and the Alloras (and Dalyans, etc.) were good, sturdy and easy to repair, what would happen to the market shares?bloke wrote:I'm really glad to see brands such as Besson and manufacturers such as Cerveny (both carried by Dillon) toeing in firmly for their market share by offering competitive models. Competition (even though some people do not want to admit this) is the primary motivation for improvements in merchandise and more affordable pricing.

Yeah Joe,
Maybe we can see some government 'bail-outs'
in the future for the ultra-priced high end tuba
market. Hah!
BTW, the unfortunately-named 'piglet' that I
recently got w/ Matt's fine tuning is one
excellent all-around CC. I hope that Cerveny
will send some more to Dillon with his improvements
as there will always be a market for a quality CC tuba
that is quite affordable.

Matt told me in a PM that they can be ordered. 40-60 day wait.Toad Away wrote:Yeah Joe,

silly engineer type question: couldn't the guy mount the engine backwards and have it tow him through the water so he could see where he's going?

Just curious --
I see a Just Added 185-5V CC
which were
very good horns.
But the picture is a 186 BBb-4V.

Re: Checking the Dillon site
The catch here, I think, is that Cerveny is definitely fully aware of their niche, and their quality and consistency has improved dramatically. I don't see their new instruments as "variable" as they once were. The Big Ben wrote: If Cervenys remained 'variable' yet costing more, they could lose out to the Chinese. Re: Checking the Dillon site
I mostly agree with Elephants market evaluation. I was patient and got a quality used horn that needed work, rather than something I would regret paying actual money for later. Many are more impatient than I, for a variety of reasons. and folks who are writing the checks at schools are always going to look at capital out lay cost first, second, and third in order of decision making. the fourth criteria might be maintenance/repair cost, the fifth might be sound (if the director is a tuba/brass aficianado).

Does subprime refer to loans backed with this kind of real estate?

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Re: Checking the Dillon site
I was really surprised by the 653 I played at Dillon's on Monday. It had a nice tone, a great low register, a good scale, and it was easy to play. I was having trouble focusing in the upper register, but such is the state of my chops and I didn't have my F tuba mouthpiece with me.the elephant wrote:Because of the reports on the 653-5 from Dillon's I plan on testing one out this coming summer. I am switching back to CC for quintet making my F playing strictly for F lit in orchestra. This will allow me to look for an F tuba that is more what I want and not what I need. The Cerveny might be the ticket due to its price. Who knows?

It is possible to tailgate in a boat there. It is impossible to lose EVERY STINKING GAME ON YOUR SCHEDULE. Oh, wait...........maybe it is possible.Woohoo! I gotta get me one-ah those. Only purple and gold with a "W" for Washington. It's possible to go to games in a boat at Washington.
Here's to the purple mutts going winless.
Oregon kicked your season off right. Thank me later.

Re: Checking the Dillon site
Mistakes of the past are coming home to roost. Ty Willingham was not the savior of Husky Football. Lots of work to be done and I'm not sure who is available to do it. Why the attitude? You beat the Huskies this year and, I think, the majority of the last five meetings. What difference does it make to a Duck fan if the Huskies win or lose as long as the Ducks win? I'm looking forward to the next Husky/Duck game. They are worthy opponents. The Ducks have rained on the Huskies parade a few time in the past. Would be nice to pay back the complement. And I hope soon but your guess is as good as mine.Cameron Gates wrote:It is possible to tailgate in a boat there. It is impossible to lose EVERY STINKING GAME ON YOUR SCHEDULE. I'm not aware of the results of the other Duck games this year. What's their record?
My self esteem doesn't rest in the balance on the outcome of a Saturday morning game. I would prefer a win but the loss doesn't bother me.
I do care about Washington Rowing. We've been national champions 4 out of the last 6 years. The rowing program has more national championships that the rest of the Washington teams put together and multiplied by two.

Now, the Berkeley Bears. Nothing makes me feel better than when the Husky crews stomp potholes in Cal. We race them three times in a year and, depending, maybe four. Swept 'em last year, I think.Ace wrote:Cameron, you are aware of what happened when your DUCKS met a group of surly Cal BEARS?
Husky football has yet to face the Bears. A win would be great but I think only about 1/2 of the players want to get off the airplane. Here's to better days...

I feel your pain. when I was at Cal we won an average of 2.5 games per year. Never winless, but some terrible football. The Big Ben wrote:Now, the Berkeley Bears. Ace, the only reason Cal football has made it back from the dark ages (Joe Kapp) is because of Ducks.
1. Bruce Snyder was the first coach to pull it out of the muck in the 80's. Bruce played at Oregon.
2. Tedford was our O coordinator and head coach in waiting. He could not wait.
BTW, check the over all record. Yes, Cal got lucky again this year against us. However, Cal will be playing in the Emerald Bowl against a powerhouse like Maryland (does that scare you) and the Duck are currently in the Rose Bowl race - kinda.
I am happy to say Washington goes nowhere. May they go nowhere for another 50 years or until I am dead.
I'll take loses to Cal every year to watch the purple pukes go winless.
