The History of Big Holtons

Post by Peach »

In an EBay thread there was a Holton bell-front BAT.
Looked to me just like the 3XX-series but the great-and-the-good decreed it was a '105' which I'd never heard of. The 1930's were mentioned.

I own a bell-front Holton with the sousa-type valve wrap but it dates from 1964.

== Is any of the following true?:

== Early C20th - Holton and York work together in a throwback to their brief partnership in 1885. Seems to me like York make quite a lot of tubas for Holton - would this be only in the pre-Elkhorn days (pre-1918)?

== 1930's - Holton make the model 105??

== 1960's - Holton produce the 345 (and variants)

When did various models come in and stop production?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the info. Would that've been late 50's?

Does anyone know any approx dates for any of the really big Holtons?
Also, what are the differences between a 355 and a 105?
Just curious.
Cheers!
